Birth & Labour Support
I offer a complimentary consultation any time during your pregnancy to talk about whether my services coincide with your needs. I want you to feel comfortable and informed with a no-pressure meeting so that you can decide if my services are right for you. Take your time and I will wait for you to contact me.
Two prenatal visits after you hire me...
During this first visit, we discuss in length, your thoughts, feelings, expectations and wishes for your birth, as well as my general role. My goal is to help you and your partner prepare for the birth you envision so we will prepare a detailed birth plan in preparation to have a satisfying birth, regardless of the outcome. Your birth plan includes your philosophies regarding where you birth, how you birth, pain control, environment, who is attending, and any other wishes you may have. You'll have the assurance of someone on hand who can help you understand what your options are.
The second meeting will be in your home at approximately 4 weeks prior to your due date where we will talk about the tools to handle early labour beautifully, learn how to recognize when it’s go time and how to navigate what to do next. We will go over comfort measures, positions during labour, relaxation and breathing techniques to get you through contractions, as well as showing your birth partner how they can be involved as they wish, so that your birth experience is positive.
Continuous support during labour and delivery…
Giving birth can be exciting but also overwhelming. It can also sometimes be long and strenuous. When the big day arrives, I will be right by your side to help provide continuous support at your home or birth place and help you navigate the process. My role is to help you cope with any fears or anxieties you may have. I am not only sympathetic, but informed. My presence is quiet and calm and I can provide suggestions for massage, position changes, comfort measures, etc. I can also take a lead support role in order to give any other primary support people a chance to rest and catch a nap or a meal. Sometimes I find myself filling the tub, blowing up the birth ball, heating up some soup, and keeping the water cup full – and it’s all about the presence. I am also able to know when to step into the background and give space or privacy if needed. I am here to help guide your questions and inform you of your options while always giving you the power of choice. This is your body, your birth.
Excellent, certified back-up doulas…
All of my back-up doulas are experienced and certified, as well as past or current members of the Doula Association of Edmonton. Your back-up doula will be individually chosen based on who I feel would best match you.
Postnatal visit in your home…
I will come to your home within a week or a few weeks depending on what we decide. Here we will go briefly review your birth experience, my role, and any questions you may have at the time.
Photographs and birth timeline…
During labour and birth, I will do my best to take photos when possible and can provide you with a birth timeline.
24-hour on-call support throughout your prenatal and postpartum experience…
When you hire me to be your doula I am available for email, text, and phone support as needed throughout your pregnancy. Have the reassurance of asking me anything, any time of day. This is a wonderful advantage of having a doula.
