About Brittney
Brittney is a certified birth & postpartum doula trained under DONA International, who has been practicing since 2017. She is a member of the Doula Association of Edmonton as well as DONA International. Brittney attends both home and hospital births and has experience with VBAC and twins, as well as personal experience with HBAC, infertility and trauma. Her passion for birth work comes from her own experiences as well as her love for endurance sports and her perseverance in surviving cancer. She is a mom of 2 miracle boys, who after surviving leukemia in 2010, was told she would never conceive her own children. Through patience, prayer, and much emotional struggle she fell pregnant with her first. With so many necessary medical interventions during her cancer journey, she knew she wanted to be more in control of her body when it came to childbirth. Although this birth ended in a c-section, the prenatal, labour, and postpartum experience was positive all because of a wonderful midwife and labour support. For her second, she had an amazing home water birth with her midwife and doula. This birth was truly empowering and an experience that she wants other mothers to have. Brittney believes that all women have the strength and power to have the birth they envision. Her goal is to support mothers in a peaceful birth that they can look back on as an experience that transformed their life.
Certified Doulas are a part of the Maternity Care Team. Endorsed by the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, they work alongside physicians, midwives, nurses, and birth partners to help minimize obstetrical intervention through informational and emotional support also to maximize their contentment of their birth experience.
Brittney is certified through DONA International. She has completed both the DONA Birth Doula and Postpartum Doula training in Edmonton, Alberta, along with Introduction to Childbirth for Doulas and the Basics of Lactation Management for Doulas. |
A doula recognizes birth as a key experience the mother will remember all her life and understands the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a woman in labor.
